Kimberley Camel Safaris is an Award Winning Business

Jarlma

Jarlma, 1 month old.

Jarlma was born in a paddock of "Mount Anderson Station".
Her mother, the camel cow Mona, separated herself from the herd and gave birth to Jarlma alone in the bush.
Jarlma's birth weight was around 35 kg and after a quarter of an hour she attempted to reach the udder of her mother, in which she, after many tries, succeeded.
Not even an hour after being born Jarlma followed on fragile legs, her mum, Mona.
She was born on 06/03/2000
It stormed heavily that day, lightning and thunder, one of the last storms of that wet season.
Jarlma made it right away into the headlines of the local newspaper. You will find the article below.

Jarlma makes a stormy entrance

HEAVY rain brought down
more than just water at Mt
Anderson with the recent
birth of a new baby camel.
Baby Jarlma was born on
March 6 in a paddock during
stormy weather after her
mother Mona had been preg-
nant for 13 months.
Station manager Robert
Watson named Jarlma after
the Aboriginal name for Mt
Anderson, Jarlmadanga.
Camel owner Tom Beckers
said it was a fitting name as
Mona had given birth at the
base of the mountain.
Jarlma's father Bauy was no
where to be seen after the
birth, but the calf was busy
drinking milk from mum and
rolling in the mud.
Mr Beckers said the labour
was very fast and Jarlma was
walking immediately after
birth.
Jarlma will follow her
parents' footsteps and become
a 'little ship of the desert'
with the Kimberly Camel
Safaris.
Mr Beckers said she would
join the team in three to four
years with a baby saddle and
then move on to a double sad-
dle as she grew.
